I think the Internet's most ... bit only goes for Brits (at most!), John but thanks, it's always nice to know that I'm not the only one who finds it useful having all that info in one place.
Anyway http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25m/2008wk05.htm has now been updated with today's Tipton Q results and details of the main draw. I can't believe the Portuguese and Mexican Futures have allowed themselves to be beaten to publishing the main draws for their Futures by a UK Future!

This is fabulous, Steven! I keep a similar record for all British men who have played professionally this year (started it early last summer, so don't have any complete years, as yet), either singles or doubles, but it's positively neanderthal in comparison with yours! ('Luddite' might be a better comparator, come to think.) I had intended to offer it as an addition to bt's stable of statistics - not any more, it'll not see the light of anyone else's day, now that I've seen your version. Thanks so much for sharing it with we mere mortals.

A complete record sounds pretty amazing, that must take quite some time! My table was also neanderthal in comparison to this one when I was only doing it for myself and had only being doing it for half a year. I'm glad you like the new version anyway.
Now that I'm publishing direct to the web and not coming up against space limits, it's quite tempting to extend the table, e.g. to all ranked players - the reason I haven't is that I know that if I make it too much of a chore to update (or more to the point, too much of a chore to get ready each week) then I'm more likely to end up not doing it for extended periods when things get too busy.
However, if you're collecting the data anyway (I don't know in what format, obviously), then maybe we could combine our efforts so that the table can cover more players after all. Just a thought ...

My stuff is simply data from atp transcribed laboriously onto a table in Word 2003; I'd be very happy for you to make use of any of it. How can I let you see it ... e-mail, ... post, ... ?
People on the Rusedski board have been commenting on the new table too, one of them finding that it doesn't display correctly on his screen (well if he will use a browser I've never heard of ... and I don't mean Opera or Mozilla/Firefox!) but others not reporting any problems.
Matthew, in between commenting on the sexual prowess of the previous people who commented (you'll see what I mean in point 6 below and sheddie will know what I mean when I say yes, it's THAT Matthew LOL), managed to make some good points. I've already implemented some of them, e.g. changed the career high marker from a psychedelic yellow highlight to a more subdued * like it used to be, but some of them are more subjective, so before I do anything about them, would anyone like to comment for or against the following:
Questions
Matthew: 1) I think there is still too much use of colour. I understand that "-3" means that Murray has dropped three spots in the rankings, I don't need more help to grasp this.
Me: The idea is to be able to see at a glance if most players are on the way up or down this week/this year, but it may still be overkill?
Matthew: 2a) I would also lose the whole idea of "won in the last 24 hours etc" being represented by colour. If it needs to be mentioned at all (does it ?) then I would have a little symbol
Me: Again, it's designed to let you see at a glance whether it's been a good or bad day overall, but this could be changed too. I guess it may depend on whether people are looking at the table a couple of times a week (in which case specific changes in the last 24 hours aren't that relevant), once a day, or checking it even more often, in which case getting hit right in the eye with what the changes are might be helpful ... and the table will now get updated every time I notice a tournament has updated its results.
Matthew: 6) Appreciate that because of the wideness (or in terms Peter would understand "girth") you have reminded us which line we are on by putting player initials. Might be necessary but I am not convinced we need it - though some of us are old with dodgy eyesight. Ricardo is young with dodgy eyesight but that is entirely of his own doing (now wash your hands Riccy !)
Me: Anyone want to keep the initials towards the right, or are the lines after every 5 players now enough?

1) I really like the colours there, for the very reason you suggest. It means you see at a glance rather than having to pay detailed attention.
2a) I have no opinion on this at the moment. If you keep it up to date then I think it could be really useful/interesting. However, it's not been in use long enough for me to form an opinion yet.
6) Again, becuase I glance and I'm lazy I like having the initials in as well as the lines. It helps when looking at the right side of of the table and wanting to know which player as well as which line if that makes any sense at all, and I have a feeling it doesn't.

To look at a thing is quite different from seeing a thing and one does not see anything until one sees its beauty
Don't worry, your answer to 6) does make sense - if you want to find out a bit of info for a particular player, you can see where they are on the left and track over from there, but if you see something that looks interesting on the right hand side, you don't really want to have to track back all the way over to the left-hand side to find out who it is and then go back to the right again.
At least, I think that's what you meant!

http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25m/2008wk05.htm updated with two wins in Albufeira (they both get a WC or Q playing R1 tomorrow in the next round) and early results from Tipton, though three of the wins were for players not on the table yet.

I've linked to the table from the front page menu on the rankings page(s), also from the "top 16 table that's at the top of that page.
- excellent as ever: both easier to understand and more detailed!
What's the plan now? will you be producing both tables or just this new one? IF just the new one, then maybe we should have a "quick & dirty" top 10, like the doubles top 10 for the mens singles players to head the rankings page, and to be pasted in the first post of this thread.....
Also, will it be possible to work the bt.net template into the new table: would be good to fit the banner, the page menu and some ads onto there........
