Laura Robson

Sad about Laura she was in Glasgow a few years ago attempting a comeback but on the day she was due to play she withdrew with a hip problem.
She seemed much taller than I thought she was.
I was gutted really hoped I could see her play.

I saw her reach the semis of a 75K in Shrewsbury when she was just 14. Such effortless ball striking, pure timing. Big shame she never achieved her potential.

Ive stopped posting on here but have come on to wish Laura well in whatever the future holds.

One of my favourites over the last ten years (and for others - lets not forget she came 4th in my British players post 1968 poll back in lockdown!!!), I always followed her matches when she was able to play. Sadly she wasnt able to fulfill her true potential which is such a shame but I am sure that now she has made her decision official, she can really focus on the future.

Like many, I am impressed by her commentary skills and insights and she will do well. I am not sure that she would like the lifestyle of being a full time coach but there must be room for her to advise and help some of our younger players and yes including Emma if they thought that would be an option.

All the very best Laura.

Laura has finally decided to call it a day and has announced her retirement from tennis. She lit a light that blazed brightly for a while, promising so much and very nearly achieved it but her body could not take the endless stress. She had several operations but never really recovered her form.

Laura is the Assistant Tournament Director for the W100 in Shrewsbury in November and plans to get involved in tournament organisation as part of her post playing career.

She'll be hosting an "evening with..." event on 2 November reflecting on her career, injuries, state of British tennis, new career in the media and her plans to get involved in tournament organisation.

an evening with Laura Robson

And she absolutely looked like she could be playing doubles in the main draw.

Absolutely. I saw bits and pieces of this match and thought the same thing. It made me think wistfully of what might have been and also made me wonder if she might be tempted back at some stage to see what she could achieve at doubles.
