Naomi Cavaday

It looks as if she might be planning her next outing for the week starting 27th Oct. She still has her name down for 6 tournaments for that week:-

1.Heraklion $10K

2.Loughborough $10K

3.Oslo $10K

4.Stockholm $10K

5.Sharm El Sheikh $25K

6.Toronto $50K

When did Sharm start offering 25Ks?  I thought it jus offered wall-to-wall 10K events.

They always up the prize money for at least on tournament each year, after the season is completely over. ie: after WTA Championships, Fed Cup & Tournament of Champions are all completed. Possibly to tempt a slightly bigger fish to Egypt chasing the soft extra points.

Last year they ran a single $75K+H; this year it's 3 $25K's in consecutive weeks, starting on 27th October.

After that, it's back to the weekly $10K's.

Edit: PS: Last years $75+H was even streamed!

A brave and inspiring article, on many levels:

Not the most important point by far but just to say, it also shows how important it is for British tennis to have top players form other countries based here - Vekic's contribution to Cavaday's comeback is not to be under-estimated.

Cheers for the article CD. Glad to see that Naomi seems to be enjoying the fight again and her confidence is also great to see. It's also interesting to see the extra details in interviews like this, such as her admiration of Richard Dawkins (for some reason!). I truly wish her the best of luck and I'm sure she can keep pushing on to reach her potential.

Thought Naomi came over very well in that interview, but it does show the pressures youngsters can feel once expectation is heaped upon them.  Really hope she enjoys it all this time around.

I had a nice long chat with Naomi at Nottingham earlier this year, and she emphasised the fact that her 'first' career happened too quickly i.e. she was never a top junior at a young age, and so coming late to the sport and finding all this pressure/expectation she was never comfortable with the week to week grind. She basically went from being a player with no expectations placed on her to someone with heaps in a very short spell of time, no time to really enjoy her tennis and the journey to the top.

A fascinating article - thank you, CD, for signposting it. And hurrah for Ms Cavaday for being open, confronting the pressures and overcoming them (like BeefyDeedz, I find it fascinating that she draws inspiration from Dawkins and Hitchens - she seems such a nice, well-balanced person, and they always strike me as being somewhat arrogant) Wish her success in her new career ... and hope that everyone involved in the "first career" has learned some lessons about what not to do with promising young players. Onwards to Stockholm!

Excellent article really hope that Naomi does well !

I am sure that Bally's heroic struggle put her own battle in perspective . The sign of a real champ is getting back up off the canvas and winning ! Naomi is doing that , great stuff !

Very interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

I'm so glad Cavs back her game is so exciting to watch and her natural ability to strike the ball is just amazing.

It's so good to see how Naomi is playing. Do hope she is enjoying herself.

Following the long discussions on this forum, I've always been a fan of wildcards but, reading Naomi's interview, I can see how badly the Wimbledon wildcard affected her. And I can see that the 'let's give the youngsters a wildcard so they get a chance' argument is maybe not such a good idea . . . .

Will be interesting to see if Naomi goes for WC next year if she's still around and keep on improving like she is
