Nice to see some of our lower ranked players getting well deserved coverage. Especially someone like Billy who you have to say really plugs away at it, not to say there are not others. With the touring in the van, to clever tournament selection. Plus doing long stints to maximise the opportunities and lower travels costs. The long stints in Italy and then Thailand/Vietnam which also included money tournaments spring to mind. I assume most of this current long stint would not have been possible without the UK Pro Tour down in Weybridge in the summer.
Lets hope he can do well the next couple of weeks, although currently looks like he'll have to go through Qualifying Wb 11th.
I notice he says he plans to play in turkey till February. Not sure if that includes February but I notice Antalya has Tournaments till the end of February. Wouldn't be the worst thing to do. As hopefully the UK, pandemic, situation should start to improve in March time.
After winning week 6 of the UK pro league, Billy has won the Cardiff leg of the Progress tour. I'd imagine he will play week 7 of the UK pro league before heading back on tour. Some good money picked up to finance a stint on tour.
He was runner-up in Turkey in the third week in Nov. Then he WON the title in Turkey two weeks ago. AND won last week too (points still to go on)
So, age 26, he's now cracked the big 500
ATP 483 (+35)
Quite the few months back at the end of September/beginning of October he was ranked 658. His results, just ITF, since the beginning of October in Bulgaria and then Turkey read 30 wins and 3 losses.
Billy is a real example of why I love supporting all our players. He may not ever be in the top 100 or a Masters champion.
But he has still showed that later in your career you can still reach new goals. Now playing challengers.
The young boy with his little van has certainly worked hard to reach this level and get the best out of himself.
Well done Billy.
Thought I needed to bump Billy up from Page 4 of this section so I decided I would have a look at his ranking breakdown, now he is into the Top 250. He only has 1 point to drop off this year and that is one of his 'non-countables' anyway. SO basically nothing to drop off at all. So AO Qualifying must be real possibility.
But looking forward even further, he only has 3 points to drop off in the first three months of next year. So Top 200 must be a very realistic goal for him. He is currently on 243 pts and based on the current rankings, around the 308 mark would see him get there. 65 points in 5 months seems very achievable to me, despite the off season shut down.

April 1st is the next big drop off in points.
I imagine Billy will try and play all 6 or at least 5 of the 6 weeks left this season? Hes in Italy this week and then Ismaning or Bergamo challenger ; Helsinki challenger or ATP Sofia; then the final 3 challenger weeks could take him anywhere but I wondered if he would try the final Japanese swing through Kobe and Yokohama, Yokkaichi ? not sure of the AO cut off, but that would take him to end November, a month off and then down to Oz for a week, AO qualies if he makes it and onwards through Feb and March.
exciting times for Billy - hes never been shy to work , travel and play lots of events in different places and surfaces. the clay in South America, a la Paul Jubb, might appeal to him. From what you say Bob, Id say top 200 is well within sight!
and a good final six weeks of 2023 could also see him become a contender for player of the season - Id say hes in the conversation already but its wide open this year and Id say a dozen players could be in that conversation across men, women, juniors, singles doubles and wheelchair, and the final 6 weeks will make a difference if someone strings some results together.
