Liam's match with Paire can be found on youtube. Liam won, plays Stakhovsky tomorrow. Seemed to be having fun.

This interview made me think a lot. Before we jump on players for a "poor performance" or "bad result", it is sometimes good to get some perspective when possible.

Wishing you well Liam.

Edit

Here is a more detailed interview with Liam and Naomi, who has had her own struggles too.

Liam apparently attended the ATP University and graduated this week in London with a bunch of other ATP players.

Out of interest , anyone know which other GB players have been through this, is there a list somewhere?

The ATP University is a 3/4 day conference which Division 1 ATP players are obligated to attend. It covers a number of off court areas to support players. I believe that all our doubles players in the top 100 have already attended.

 Thanks Guardian Angel - that is a new phrase to me, "Division 1 ATP Players"? Out of interest what defines those, players on the main Tour and Challenger Tour, singles and doubles?

He's just tweeted that he's applying for an Australian work visa. Wonder what that's about?

That he'll be working in Australia in January? We already knew that.

Interesting comments by Liam on twitter bemoaning the fact that he cant play any matches before Aussie Open Qualies. Considering I dont believe hes actually made the cut yet then it might not even be a problem. I understand that he probably wanted to get to Australia to acclimatise and get on the right time zone. However if hed have gone to America hed have got in and hed have made the Q cut in Noumea. Both options would have added ££s onto his trip however if its games he needs then they were the options. The Aus challenger was always going to be a premium cut. Anyway he might not even make the Aus Open Q draw. Which would be madness considering he decided not to play the last challenger he was down for last season. Instead going to the ATP Uni thing. Liam strikes me, from what I see on social media, as thoughtful and clever bloke but the planning for the start of this season seems a bit haphazard.

Tweet for those not on twitter
@Liambroady
Does anybody else feel like the system is flawed when you cant play a warm up tournament before grand slam qualifying? This is the case for Wimbledon and now Aus Open. Surely has to change to enable all players a fair build up?
