RE: Emma Raducanu

Seems the media are still desperate for a romance between Emma and Carlos

*Carlos Alcaraz recently shared a heartfelt message for Emma Raducanu on her birthday, describing her as "a very special girl" and expressing his wish to partner with her in mixed doubles next year. Their friendly interactions over time have fuelled rumours of a possible romance between the two young tennis stars.*

Nice to see Emma leading the way with her charity commitments. Following on from her visits to Great Ormond Street Hospital, Emma was spotted in London helping out for the charity Surplus to Supper. Maybe some of other past or present stars could get out there and do something useful. Developing into an excellent role model for our up and coming tennis stars.

Yes but its fine doing it in the tennis court with tennis players, but it is getting outside to other charitable activities that counts with image. I had to hunt hard for this. Its not yet on the mainstream as she tends to keep it quiet until the event or contribution has taken place. As a marketing professional and retired marketing university lecturer, she is getting very good advice. Would be useful for others to take note. Mind it does help if you have over a million followers on Instagram!

Well thee and me JonH most probably will never have to. As you say we do our bit quietly and under the radar.. However celebrities are different , they have clout. The charity Surplus to Supper have had over 2000 plays of the video featuring Emma in the past hour or so. That really helps to put the charitys work in the spotlight, which carries on from a visit by Prince William the other week. They have more clout and it is good to see them using it to the charitys benefit.

It is good in itself for celebrities to get on the ground involved in charities. But surely what is generally more important to the charities is that it is publicised, that recognition of their name and what they do is picked up by the celebrity's followers.

Us common citizens will make little difference in marketing our charity efforts. The sports star can make quite a difference though, so if they go about it very quietly they are not helping the charity as much as they probably could.

Fair points- agreed. But still wonder if more people do more things than they say in public, even if they should say something. And not having a go at Emma here, good for her to get involved!

I recall when George Michael died, it came out a bit later how he had done loads of charity work or donations under the radar.

But tbh, Emma, footballers, golfers, whoever - they get paid enough, far more than us normals ever would. Good for her and the charity ultimately - if it helps people then that's all that matters

And you've got to remember that, according to the records, Emma paid £1.8 million in corporation tax in 2022 (the last reported year)

Now, that tax was owed, there's nothing particularly praise-worthy about paying the tax you owe

But that money is a decent sum, and is all for the public good, as much - if not more - than money that goes to charities

And a big difference there is that there was a long period in George Michael's life when his reputation would have been poison for a charity to be associated with.

Whereas Emma, despite all the fuss from the tennis commentariat about her coaching setup/injuries etc (and the aggro she gets from the Daily Fail and similar rags just for existing as a successful young woman) has a lovely, positive reputation that attracts good press. This is exactly why charities actively court celebrities and famous patrons, because they get (positive) column inches/social media buzz that the charity can't get on it's own.

So good on George Michael for doing a lot privately (and with no career benefit to him) but I doubt any of the charities he was working with would have wanted it any other way at the time.

Good news.

Hoping for more progress in 2025 for Emma. Winning another title is a must. And back into the top 32 should be a short term goal.

Emma's 2024 according to the BBC and herself wirh a few stats - not too shabby in all the circumstances. And looking ahead to the new year - I like the fitness and make her serve more of a weapon stuff, now stay fit and healthy.
