Complemented by Russell Fuller in his Beeb article. Somebody needs to tell him that you dispense WITH someone's services, not of them! And I doubt anyone will persuade Frances Tiafoe that "vibe" is a noun, not a verb!
Let's hope Emma settles into a routine now. She might feel more comfortable with Petchey by her side.
Just don't want her to change her mind again in a couple of weeks time.

I think there's a lot more young people than just Tiafo that would need convincing there - seems more likely to me that it might evolve into an accepted verb. Personally I like it that language evolves and think most of us Brits cling on to how things are too much and could be more accepting of developments and regional variations etc. Language has never been that static. (Sorry i know I'm probably opening a can of worms here and saying that things that have been discussed round in circles by others here over the years but felt like having a little say on this one, hope I'm not upsetting anyone).
Also to be fair, having been named Frances not Francis, he's probably not the most likely person to be a pedant about such things.
But the been should definitely have higher standards with their checking of grandma!

Agreed! Which is why I dont bother with the English grammar thread - lifes too short, tbh, to get uptight about something that evolves naturally and rightly over time.
Yes, she has played quite a few tournaments this year, if not loads of matches ( 8 matches in 6 weeks from the Australian Open to Dubai inclusive ) But actually most recently she only played one match ( her Indian Wells R1 defeat ) in the month between her Dubai R2 exit and the start of her 5 matches in Miami ( with some rather short ones in there ). So she's not coming out of a long competitive period. And overall has played all of 14 matches since the start of the year.
So is she carrying an injury / a niggle? Was there more to her dizziness vs Peguia? She's certainly not overplayed so should not be needing a competitive rest. I was hoping to see her in more competitive action, building on Miami.
Emma, as an 18 yo, played 10 matches in the 2 weeks before 2021 US Open Qualifying, 3 matches in that, and then 7 in the MD. These 20 matches in 5 weeks ( not that that's a schedule to aim for! ) didn't go too badly!
Now, when she should be generally stronger and more resilient, she takes yet another seemingly random time-out. Sorry, a time to look after her body period, hmm.
All the best to her, and I really want her to be all she can be. Just gets a bit confusing at times.

According to the BBC article on her coaching yesterday there is a doubt she will compete in Madrid but definitely will in Rome.
There's looking after your body and basically being a part-time player. I'd say this is a bit of both. I really don't see that, as a supposedly professional level athlete, anyone could describe her schedule this year as heavy or over the top. Afterall she hasn't won that many matches. Compare her to Pegula for eg.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is how her future in tennis career will pan out. Playing really just the higher profile tournaments, missing most of the clay season and hoping to keep her ranking high enough to get direct entry into these tournaments.
She just hired a fulltime fitness coach and still we get this approach. Of course she could be injured so we'll have to wait and see what actually happens. Playing every now and then really decreases her relevance to the tour in terms of being considered a potential tournament winner but I guess she'll always have that magical US Open win to keep the crowds interested.
She plays so infrequently that I'm sure he'll easily be able to combine it with his commentary role with the Tennis Channel. Don't see why it should be any big impediment.

Subject to injury I expect she'll be playing a lot more between now and the end of the US Open.
