The weather has affected various tournaments again this week. Sigh!

The 2025 Boys / Girls U18 National Junior Championships took place at the NTC this week ( on acrylic ). The Singles Finals are tomorrow.
Boys: (1) Oliver Bonding 2007     v    (2) Ben Gusic-Wan 2007
Girls: (1) Mika Stojsavljevic 2008 v (2) Hannah Klugman 2009

The 2025 Boys U18 Doubles Winners are : Felix Bocklemann-Evans (b 2007) / Ferran Redza (b 2007)
The 2025 Girls U18 Doubles Winners are : Hollie Smart (b 2009) / Mia Wainwright (b 2007)

This is the first week of the ATP/WTA 1000 Madrid. Jacob, Billy, Harriet and Fran were in Qualifying. Jacob and Fran qualified and joined Jack, Cam, Katie B, Emma and Sonay in the Main Draw.
Fran lost to Yastremska however Katie B beat Siniakova, Emma beat Lamens, Sonay beat Christian, Cam beat sickness and Landaluce, Jacob beat Bu and Jack got a bye to reach the second round.
So in 2025 three of our women made it to the second round of a WTA1000 (and on clay) for the first time ever.
Surprisingly it was claimed that this is only the second time that two of our women have made it through to a second round in a WTA1000 ! Any statisticians perhaps JonH or GAMEOVER able to verify this smile ?

The Doubles teams are yet to play. There are two women's pairings - Liv with Tereza and Katie B with Daria Kasatkina, and four men's pairs- Henry + Harri, Julian/ Lloyd, Joe/ Neal and Jamie + Rajeev.

 Quite some stats, and as you say it seems very surprising re supposedly just the second time even just 2 GB women have made it to a R2.

I guess until recent years, when the Madrid and Rome draws were expanded, the only really big draws with R2 being L64, were Indian Wells and Miami, so they would be the prime candidates for possibilities. Quite apart from our women being useless on clay anyway

If we are talking about winning their R1 match, then possibly (Harriet and Jo winning their R1 match Montreal 2021), but there is also Emma and Harriet winning their R2 match in Indian Wells 2022 (Emma having a bye in R1)

 Just realised this event was Georgia as in the US state, as opposed to Georgia the country - was searching away on apps to try and find it, haha!biggrin

And realised Oli C hadnt played today as the clock is behind us, so will play tonight!

This is the first week of Rome. Cam, Billy and Harriet were in Qualifying for the second ATP/WTA1000 tournament on clay in 2025.

No-one was successful so we had just the five in the Main Draw - Jacob, Jack, Sonay, Emma and Katie B. Then Cam gets an LL spot!

 

Katie B lost to Pavlyuchenkova in the first round however Sonay beat Birrel, Cam beat O'Connell, Emma beat Joint, Jacob beat Fognini

and Jack as a seed was given a bye to reach the second round.

 

Please follow their next matches ( and also those of the doubles players ) on the relevant threads and hopefully someone

will feature in next week's ''friday feeling ''

Thanks DF- just to note, its the third ATP 1000 on clay this season, Monte Carlo being the other; WTA only had two. Second joint one, maybe that is what you meant. Doesnt matter, anyway, haha.

My laptop was so temperamental tonight. It did not want to paste what I wanted it to.smile It left out words, changed the font on some lines

highlighted others so I have been correcting and recorrecting but when I hit the submit button I was never sure what to find. So frustrating!
