5 more GB medals on Wedneday with sailing and show jumping golds, boxing silver and bronze, and skateboarding bronze.

Up to 4th in the medals table ( both golds and total ). Still 6 golds behind Japan's best ever 21 ( including all 3 so far contested skateboarding golds ) with the 4th to 6th battle well clear of Germany in 7th.

3. Japan 21G, 7S, 12B, Total 40

4. G Britain 15G, 18S, 15B, Total 48
5. Australia 15G, 4S, 17B, Total 36
6. 'Russia' 14G, 21S, 18B, Total 53

7. Germany 8G, 8S, 16, Total 32

Really well done to ( recently turned ) 13 yo Sky Brown on her skateboarding park bronze.

It would have been fun to see where she might have gone with her 3rd run if she had already banked one in the first two runs but got to be very happy ( and clearly was! ) with how she pulled it out and with the Japanese favourite looking set to deny her in the final run until she fell very close to the end.

At same point in 2016 we had 49 medals and in 2012we had 48!

we apparently have less strong events left over the last few days so will fall back again .

Yes, a few events have switched around. Taekwondo was much earlier this time so is done and dusted but track cycling is later with further medal chances there.

We also have more guaranteed in boxing and medal chances with such as the show jumping team, Laura Muir in the 1500m, Tom Daley in diving, Liam Heath in sprint canoeing, our women's hockey team playing for bronze, plus of course hopefully more unexpected success.

Overall, our London and Rio final hauls are indeed most probably beyond us but we will finish better than many predicted. I reckon that this time top 4 medals total is still likely and maybe top 4 in golds. It would be great to hit 60 medals in total.

We only have 2 medals in athletics. UKA predicted 8-9 medals.
We only have 2-3 realistic chances for further medals in athletics

UKA is a mess. The new CEO doesn't know what she is doing. No sponsors, no TV deal. Too much focus on gender equality.
UKA have no money. Their funding will get cut after the Olympic review.

The future is not great.

Hmm, very optimistic from the outset even with a fit KJT and Dina A-S. And KJT at least was well known to have a major issue.

Reached 51 medals now, 6th place based on the golds count but a 3 way battle with Australia and Russia now.

China lead the medals table - when was last time USA was beaten and could China take top place this time ? Edit Beijing 2008 of course

Indeed, Beijing.

Although US hews outlets are ranking the US first ( as they did in 2008 ) based on total medals. China are rather irked!

To be just a wee bit fair to the US they have consistently done Olympic medal tables this way for a long time, well no doubt at least since 2008 Problem is no-one else seems to do it this way and it seems plain daft not to distinquish. You'ed think the US anyway would be more about winners.
