I feel they can sink to the floor, unnoticed, if need by, without any shame.
Or generate ongoing interest.
Or simply be there when you need them when, out of the blue, things get going again.
Emily obviously is a great sportwoman - played excellent netball and hockey, I seem to remember. And it shows - very good ball skills, and athleticism. Always like watching her play live. (she loves doubles too - I seem to remember hearing her saying, when she was only 17 or so, that she wanted to specialise in dubs)
But also obviously a very bright girl. Great that she's enjoying herself at Stanford.
With all the talk of Brits who've done the US college route I suddenly thought about Emily and wondered if anyone knew what the latest was with her? Surely she's finished uni now?

She finished some time ago. Still plays at county level and I think she has a Cambridge Blue, but is working full-time (and with a Masters from Stanford and Cambridge that isn't surprising)
Last year a bunch of us went to Cambridge to have a Real Tennis lesson for a friend's birthday and the instructor was saying that Emily played at that club and had become very good at the game very quickly. Fast forward a year and I was playing a tennis match at against Sutton and Emily was on the court next to me playing with Natasha Starling. Slightly distracted watching them, she looks like a very accomplished doubles player. Wonder if she would ever make a comeback
Thanks folks. As I recall she was a bright prospect as a junior so it and seems a shame that she's not pursuing a professional career at the moment, but it's her decision.
I always liked Emily Arb, she was like the dynamo bunny on court, incredibly bouncy and energetic
And you could tell she played other sports (hockey come to mind but maybe it was netball)
But, tbh, she wasn't very tall, I think she'd have struggled to make the top cohorts - and for a girl who's got Stanford and Cambridge on her CV, the world was presumably her oyster and I think she's chosen the right path
