Yes, the WTA site shows Marni has won $55k so far this year. Compare that with Sonay ($161k), Fran ($141k), Beth ($41k) and Katy D ($24k) to name a few. Doesnt look too shabby, does it.
I appreciate that the expenses can be high and mount up rapidly, but also we don't know about her circumstances. Without the money from Wimbledon it certainly doesn't look enough.
Yes. The WTA site is wrong, needless to say, about the currencies
But I'm assuming they're right about the numbers themselves
It's certainly not a fortune after expenses whatever but it's a tidy sum
The Wimbledon money is well-earned - it's good for the LTA/AELTC to give a little indirect funding by wildcards, and then allow the players the chance to take advantage of multiplying that funding by actually winning
I would also always like to know what business sponsoship she's tried to get - it's up to players to run their careers as business-like as possible, especially when they're not teenagers any longer
Also, from the sheet, she's eligible for Pro-Scholarship consideration, no? Has the LTA considered her and her turned her down? Again, she has to be transparent with what avenues she's pursuing
I don't know what business sponsorship she has already got, but Katy tells me that Marni has now been approached by a couple of companies. I haven't a clue about the LTA side of things.
To provide some context here. Marni currently receives funding from the LTA as part of her Men's and Women's programme scholarship. At the end of this year she is no longer eligible for that and unless she is promoted to the Pro Scholarship Programme will have to fund herself from next year, hence Katy starting this fund raise. Katy seems to have initially overlooked and then later realised that Marni may be on the PSP next year. Marni should be on the shortlist for consideration by the selection panel in November.
