Interesting to see the voting progression like for like over the past 4 years of PoM, using just Jan and Feb as a consistent comparison (just for final votes as use of semifinal groups is inconsistent as numbers of nominations have varied)

2021 - 61 votes in the Jan/Feb POM final votes combined

2022 - 76 votes in Jan / Feb (25% increase on 2021)

2023 - 86 votes in Jan/Feb (13% improvement on 2022)

2024 - 99 votes in Jan/Feb ( 15% improvement on 2023)

So really steady increase and involvement from people, long may it continue to increase!

This is our first PoM tie for top place since 2021, it has only happened twice before - the two entries suggesting a tie in 2022 were actually a doubles pair winning it, so not a tie at all (Liv/Lissey, and Julian/Henry).

Ties are not very common it seems! 3 ties in 45 votes, so roughly 6 or 7 % of the time in total

2021 - 88 votes in PoM final Jan through March

2022 - 115 votes (31% increase on 2021)

Some folks may have spotted a post i made back in January that I would be looking to hopefully hand over the running of player of the month and season to someone else who is interested; my desire is to see this season out for both PoM and PoS , PoS taking place in early January 2025. There is a long time before then but, as we get closer to that point, drop me a line on a PM if you think you could be the person to take it on in 8 months or so.

Dont need anyone to own it now, but please keep it in mind if this could be something that interests you!

meanwhile, Im enjoying the open nature of the 2024 season and looking forward to seeing how the months and season unfolds. I cant believe we are just 5 weeks away from grass season and Surbiton !

In terms of the voting patterns, I have calculated the average vote for the final in each month of the year to date to show how votes are progressing year on year:

This year has seen votes per months final increase to almost 50 per month, which is amazing and a 17% increase on last year. Votes have doubled on average since we started this in 2020, although the first few months of 2020 got impacted pretty quickly by Covid!

Nonetheless, I can recall Steven of these parts going onto his twitter account to try and drum up votes to take us to 40 for the first time. To now be reaching 59 (last month was 41!) is amazing and long may it continue

Word of caution - May is regularly the slowest month voting wise. Consistently. Something to do with a month of out and out clay, vote starting as the FO starts and it is also the end of May bank holiday, so votes get reduced accordingly, I guess.

I am not going to be around the board too much next week or so - I have a business trip taking me overseas for 10 days (to Jamaica, someone has to do it!) and so will be busy on a different time zone and , although I will check in, I presume the threads around May PoM nominations will survive quite nicely without me!
