2024 ITF Wheelchair Tour

Disappointing for Alfie as he lost the singles final in Melbourne to Oda, 2 and 6. Still, doubles final to come.

In singles, Oda must enter the AO as favourite after that win. Alfie has played a lot of matches in the two events so far, though, so hopefully a few days off will help with the AO due to start on the 23rd

Alfie and Gordon won the doubles title at Melbourne, although it was pretty tight

Alfie and Gordon have won the last 4 AO doubles titles

Lets hope they make it 5! Draws out Monday, I believe.

Singles draws out:

Womens Lucy plays top seeded de Groot, who never loses! Oh well

Quad - Lapthorne plays chiles Perez and Slade plays Chiles Cayelef - haha.

Mens - Alfie has Sanada (Alfie is top seed) and Gordon (4th seed) has Schaffers from the NL

hopefully, Britain will get 3 wins in the opening round

Doubles also:

Mens - Alfie and Gordon (top seeds) play Aussies Anderson and Weekes

Womens - Lucy partners French girl Deroulede and they play Bernal and Zhu

Quad - Andy with Wagner and they play Ataman and Silva; Greg with Aussie, Broadbent, and play second seeded Davidson and Shaw.

Hopefully, Alfie/Gordon and Andy + can get wins there

Could be a tough match for Reid, who lost to Scheffers 6-3 6-1 this week. Seems to be struggling in singles at the moment.

All 24 last 16 matches across the 3 singles events take place overnight tonight.

So, 5 Brits in action - good luck to all!

Gordon plays another Dutchman, Egberink, next. Alfie plays Cataldo of Colombia; the other seed in Alfies half, de la Puente is out in round one.

Andy plays another Dutchman as well, Sam Shroder, in the quad last 8.

Lucy looks like she will head out to the womens top seed de Groot.

And Lucy loses. 3 out of 5 through.

Not quite sure how play progresses, doubles presumably starts tomorrow.

Singles and doubles quarterfinals all being played tomorrow in a busy day of tennis for the wheelchair players.

Should be fun to see what unfolds - some of the matches, including Alfie and Gordon's doubles, are on the Kia Arena, which is the 3rd court I believe, like Wimbledon's Court 2?

For those interested

Shuker was born in Doha, Qatar, but grew up in Fleet, Hampshire. She comes from a badminton-playing family and started played badminton at an early age before going on to represent Hampshire County at national competitions, alongside her brother Matthew Shuker, who held a career high world ranking of no.43 in men's singles.[11] Shuker also had a love of horse riding until she had a motorbike accident at the age of 21 which left her paralysed from the T4 vertebra.[12]

In singles, Alfie and Gordon both moved through to the mens semis, well done to them. They also won their mens doubles last 8 as well.

Andy lost his quad singles but won his quad doubles and is into the semis there as well.
