To summarise- at the semis stage we have Alfie and Gordon in the mens singles, and Alfie/Gordon and Andy + in the doubles semis (mens and quad respectively).
Gordon has a 1-5 record H2H versus Oda, so Oda is strong favourite
Alfie and Gerard have a 22-15 career H2H, big long term rivals. Alfie was 6-1 since start of 2023 and beat Gerard in both the recent warm up events in Melbourne, in 2 sets (2 and 2) and then 3 sets (6-2 4-6 6-2)
Alfie v Oda seems the smart money final but let's hope Gordon can beat the Japanese player!
Alfie is 6-4 career head to head over Oda and won the final here last season over him. But, Oda has won their last 3 matches in straight sets, including French and Wimbledon titles and last week in the Melbourne Super Series event.
Id say Oda goes in as favourite despite being second seed to Alfies top.
Im guessing the world number one spot is also on the line in the final, although not sure.
The doubles semis and finals are now scheduled for tomorrow, from 1 am GMT. Andy and partner play first, then Alfie and Gordon. If both win, their finals are later in the day.
Both semis are on Margaret Court Arena and the quad doubles final is also lined up for Margaret Court as well; Alfie and Gordon will be on Kia Arena if they reach the final of the mens.
The Mens singles final between Alfie and Oda will hopefully be played Saturday morning our time
Well done Alfie and Gordon for winning their semi, but big congrats to Andy who wins his quad doubles semi, surprising the second seeds in the process!
Alfie and Gordon about to start their final and Andy is also on later!
Alfie and Gordon play Miki and Oda of Japan; Andy and American ,David Wagner, play Ramphadi of South Africa and Israeli Sasson. Both finals warming up.
