Para tennis 2024 thread

I see Anna is also in the doubles table lead as well, presumably that is just a simple round robin? A double would be nice though !

Yes a straight round robin, and I think she needs one set in the doubles tomorrow to retain her doubles title.

Annas doubles is on about midnight our time; the two singles finals follow around 3 am for Anna and after that for Oliver.

Anna beat her final opponent comfortably in the group stage , so should be hot favourite in the final. Likewise, Oliver lost to his final opponent in the groups, and comfortably, so is underdog.

I think that sums it up.

The second seed only lost to the 3rd seed for the first time ever due to a medical issue. She said everything went blurred during her match. She is normally a competitive and skillful player. This is a shame as we look forward to the variety and playing the best. The second seed was healthier for the late evening doubles and played much better.

Anna won the doubles, but her wrist sprain is causing her problems with her serve and groundstrokes. So not the best doubles.

I hope she can get through her singles final. This is being livestreamed, but don't expect too much because of the wrist.

Anna won 6-2 6-0. As expected she did not play anywhere near her best and her serves were off. But she hit some good returns and groundstrokes near the end. So did enough to retain her singles and doubles titles.

Congrats to Anna on defending both her titles! I'm sorry to hear about the wrist strain and hope that clears up quickly, but she's had a truly impressive run of performances despite that.

And well done to all of you in her support team as well and thank you for sharing all the info and your insights here.

Thank you,  it was nice to share things.

GB had a winner in the women's singles and doubles and we also had the runner up in men's singles and doubles. We also had a runner up in the women's doubles, so all the GB won something.

In the DHoH we had a GB winner in the men's doubles.

I notice the LTA have introduced comprehensive ranking lists now covering learning and hearing and visual disability categories. As well as wheelchair and others.

I guess these dont include overseas events, hence why Anna isnt ranked, given she is world number one!

competitions.lta.org.uk/ranking/

Anna/ Annas Dad - please keep on the board and keep people informed as other events take place and Annas season progresses.

Youll notice Anna has been nominated for our player of the month vote - look out for that later!

The votes will go up in this same general thread if youre not familiar with the board structure! There are lots of nominees so there will be a semifinal vote tonight through Monday evening, and a final Monday evening through Tuesday evening

Yes, Anna does not generally play regional disability, as she has always played main stream nationals, British Tours and grade 3's. Plus some junior ITF's pre covid, when she had a UTR of over 8.30. So she will never be high on the National list.

There are some Road to Wimbledon regional qualifiers that are worth her playing in, as that is a nice event to play in August on the grass. So she will play one of those.

I will certainly add details of the World Tennis championships in France this September and any other noteworthy event.

It is nice to be nominated. Although, I fully expect some of the other very worthy great players to win that.

I have to correct what I said earlier. I said everyone won something, but Fabrice only manged third due to his semifinal loss to Ollie, who played some inspired tennis this weekend.

Just a reminder that Anna is in the running for Player of the Month thanks to her performance in the AO PWII event.
