Megan Knight

Ok, I know this is another post giving threads to babies in their cradles but....

I've had a strong interest in Megan Knight since she won the U12 National Championships in 2022, despite being a year young (which makes a big difference at that age). (I think she also made the semis of the U12 a year before that, two years young)

It was a very impressive run of matches - Megan is a very natural ball striker, with good timing, nice relaxation through her shots, an aggressive minset and good technique....

She is born in 2011, and turned 13 on 1st Feb this year

Comes from Suffolk

Her father is Nick Knight (ex-England cricketer) and she was at Culford (not sure now)

She was one of 48 young players to receive the very prestigious invitation from IMG to attend the Future Stars Invitational Tournament at the swanky Tatoi Club in Athens

Late in 2023, she made the final of the U12 Junior Orange Bowl, which is probably THE top U12 event in the world

Since then, she's had decent results in Les Petits As (making the last 16, beating the 10th seed, and losing to a putter-backer from hell)

She's now just beaten the 4th seed in the Super U14 tournament in Stockholm

It's a name to follow.....

Thanks CD, I love following them through their careers and seeing them live in the lower tournaments on their way up.

I have lovely memories of Heather and Emma at local tournaments, and their teams/families.

Tomorrow, Megan is 13 years old and 11 days.
And she will play her first ITF event, a J100 (which is rather a high level to kick off), with a wildcard at the J100 in Loughborough.

Megan lost 4-6 3-6 to Erin Pearce, age 17, JWR 521

Which is a very respectable score

Megan has been high on the LTA radar since the age of 9/10 and was playing Tennis Europes in GB early on. She went under the general radar for a while as she has always played up So didnt get immediate results. She is still at Culford but has an individualised tennis programme very similar to Hannah Klugman at that age. She is being invested in heavily and there are a lot of expectations from her.

She doesnt play many tournaments and not many GB events so her GB ranking is deceptively lower than her level. She has also only been able to gain points from 14U TE events recently which has affected her European ranking.
Like you, I rate her a lot and think she is the top 14U player in GB at the moment.

Thanks for the information.

Megan must be held in high regard if she gets a wildcard in a J100 for her first ITF comp.
