RE: March 2024 Player of the Month Nominations Thread

I disagree with recent comments. I feel Olivia is worthy of a nomination. Its not as if she was seeded in this tournament, had to beat a seeded pair and adds to her points total. Consistency at this level is to be respected.

You are welcome to nominate anyone if you feel they deserve it. In this particular case I decided not to - having nominated Liv many times in the past.

I came on here to nominate Olivia, but then saw the conversation above and thought I'd better not. But after a nice dinner and a couple of glasses of wine I still think she's worth it so what the heck... Sorry TA, but I'm so delighted to see her playing with a good partner like Gadecki and I really hope this partnership continues.

Nominations

1. Oliver Bonding, for winning the J500 "Banana Bowl", dropping only one set along the way. Oli is the first British boy to win a J500 event since they were introduced in 2023, having earlier in the week become the first British boy to reach the semis or beyond of a J500 event. Prior to the introduction of J500s, only three other British boys had won any of the equivalent top-level "Grade A" tournaments, the last of them being George Morgan, who won the 2010 Orange Bowl.

2. Alfie Hewett - won the Super series Cajun Classic, beating world number one (Oda) in the final and for a secomd straight week to take his consecutive wins now to 12 matches. Also won the doubles title (w/ Gordon Reid).

3. Luke Hooper (2006) - two J100 singles titles, back to back, at Loughborough

4. Mingge Xu (Mimi) - aged 16 - for winning the doubles title at the W15 in Monastir - her first double tournament outside the UK. And she also reached the quarter final in singles (her fourth tournament abroad, all in Monastir)

5. Olivia Nicholls for winning the W125 in Charleston

 Canda, to nominate, just

- click on the "Quote" button on the top right of the post with the most recent nomination list

- edit out any unnecessary text (such as details of who made the post you're quoting

- add the next number to the bottom of the list, the name of the person you're nominating and the reason.

- click on the "Submit Post" button

That's it!

As you can see, some of us (like me) like to write a lot for our nominations and some (like SuperT) keep it short and sweet. Either is fine.

Also, Canda, dont feel if someone has posted a nomination but not said as much as you might have said, that you cant add to it. Just do as Tanaqui succinctly writes above and , rather than adding a new name, add some extra commentary to the relevant player, and then repost the list. Its a list that is owned by all, so at various points in the month people edit and add comments to certain players !

and please feel free to put in a nomination at any time you wish , for this month or for future months !

Well done SuperT on the nomination. Just to be clear, I nominated Liv last month for winning a 250 - the 125 this week (although I enjoyed watching the final) didn't quite excite me so much - so I left it to others

Absolutely , and different performances catch us all in different ways. Although not as long a list as often at this point of the month, its shaping up nicely. Id say its going to be competitive, unless someone comes up with a big title or performance in the next two weeks.

I have been a fan of Olivia for a very long time and have always felt she has failed to achieve her full potential and could play at the top level if only she could only find the right partner.  I've been delighted to see her consistency of late and couldn't resist the nomination, even though I agree with TA that the 125 level is well within her capability.  That explains the short and sweet descriptor, and of course I'm more than happy if anyone wants to edit it.

And, Canda, if you really have a problem and it's doing your head in, just type it as a normal message, like the one above, and someone will put it in for you

Great to see Giles get a title this week after a SF last week and moving to a new CH on the back of them. Good performances

So, a week and a half left in this months nominations process. Highly unlikely we will reach more than needed to just have a single vote this month, nominations end on 31st March, as Miami ends; unless Brits are all done sooner. If anyone catches your eye over the next week and a half, please add to the list as per normal process - and remember, it is open to all to nominate and any player can be nominated for any reason!
