 I think Olympics is, theoretically, a bigger thing though - it is the Olympics and I hope Andy is serious about playing them and doing well. But they should be bigger than the player and, if he wasnt serious, I hope he wouldnt have entered and Dan could have played with someone else. I am taking Joe and Neal as a given as a pair. Dan and Lloyd or Dan and Julian, Dan and Henry, Dan and Jamie (as it would need to be Dan, as we are limited to 6 players and 5 would be secure in their place as selected) would be better than fielding no one if Andy pulled out.

I am not saying he will, I am saying I hope he wont as I want to see him there, for sure ( I am a big Andy fan as most of use here are), just raising the hypothetical question and keeping my fingers crossed now that he wont pull out and wont have stopped us having the full complement of players. 

Lambda and 9vicman know more about the detail so will encourage them to comment if they wish!    

How does the cut off work, then, vicman?

I dont have exact numbers but would Dan (lets say singles rank 60) plus say Julian (doubles rank, say, 45) be a 105 entry combined rank?

And Dan (again, say, 60) plus Andy (95 or whatever it was at cut off point, June 10th) be combined 155? How does that compare and be better than the 105 of and Julian? Do they get some boost somewhere if they arent in the top 24 that bumps them to the top of an alts list or some such? Sorry for being a thicko, the Olympic entry requirements just seem to have been designed to confuse people like me!!

 Not a thicko at all. It's even confusing for nations (and me).

Doubles acceptances work as follows: any Top 10 doubles player nominated is accepted with any partner with a Top 300 doubles ranking. Then combined rankings (singles or doubles) are used until you reach 24 pairs.

At that point if the player quota is reached (which it will be), priority for the last eight pairs is given to pairs with two singles players (in ranking order), then one singles player then no singles players. Hope that helps.

 Perfect - makes total sense for the first time! so andy and Dan will be two doubles players and thus high up the 25 onwards grouping. 

I guess its now dan we need to worry about more!

Yes, was going to say the same. Would be a real shame if both Dan and Andy ended up pulling out and GB could have nominated two specialist doubles pairs. No-one's fault of course.
