BBC Wimbledon commentators

Didnt see the womens semis but listened to the second semi on the radio on a long drive up the motorway all pm

Just to say, Naomi and Marion and Laura made a great commentary team, v engaging, with the always good Gigi Salmon and Russell Fuller doing the ball by ball.

Radio 5 is , for me, very much the best commentary going

Next year they should do what they did with the Euros and show main coverage with radio commentary. The red button channel has been almost completely superfluous for Wimbledon coverage this year anyway.

Watching my first real live tennis of the fortnight - Nick K commentating with Castle and Mxenroe .

Whatever ones views on him as a person, Nick is a good commentator - insightful, good tactical comments, knows the players

The radio commentators go much more off piste and talk about the players and their lives, hobbies , stuff around the tennis. Makes it very listenable. Krejcikova (which they pronounced Kray-cheek-over) apparently a) has a love of mowing the lawn to relax which led into a conversation were it was clear Laura had never cut a lawn (presumably she has people who do it for her), whereas Naomi said it was her favourite chore at the house which she rather than her partner does (who is her partner, I read somewhere about a night club owner?). B) Kray also likes Lego models and her team buy her Lego models of the city or place she wins tournies at , her favourite model being Tokyo skyline apparently c) Kray is very shy and focused, not at all certain of her tennis standard being good enough and needs building up.

all quite mundane stuff but it was discussed for something like half an hour over various points and was really interesting

Laure lives in a flat, doesn't she? Most Londoners have never mown a lawn - and not because they have someone to do it for them

Seconding Brendan's idea. The Radio 5 commentary is infinity more listenable than most of the TV team and I really enjoy Naomi B in particular. She's very insightful about what's going on with the players' games, such as exactly why a particular shot is or isn't working for them, and clearly just knows the current tennis scene and the players and their styles well.

Same with Laura and Marion, too, and Gigi and Russell are good at the ball-by-ball and keeping the "colour" chat from the others in check enough to be able to keep up with what's happening on court. (I listened to radio commentary from one of the slam tennis radio streams and they did not do this and it kept being "five points have been played and I have no clue what happened" because they didn't actually commentate.)

Quite probably but Naomi certainly ripped her apart ( very amusingly) for her being above cutting a lawn. The banter was very natural and good humoured and enjoyable to listen to. Reminded me the old test match special cricket commentators.

I believe she lives in a house. I recall KB let Laura in live in her flat while Laura was having her house renovated on the basis Katie would be away at tournaments most of the time. And then COVID hit and they spent months living together.

I have never cut a lawn, is the assumption therefore that I have people to do it for me biggrin

I tune in to Radio 5 and if Naomi B is on, I think oh good !

As said, knowledgeable about things to do with players' games and explains things well, but also amusingly tangential at times, chatty, gossipy and fun. She's a pleasure to listen to
