Girls: J300 Roehampton, grass (Week 27)

So glad you had a good day, Oscariyan - I was rather worried for you re the weather - I happened to be in Balham today and it was drizzle all morning and then a downpour at about midday

Thanks for the reports - keep them coming

Oscar - any match scores on junior qualis results would be much appreciated too - I don't think there's any livescores for that

How are out 10.30 players doing? Ruby? Hannah R? Ciara?

No joy in the doubles. Iva Jovic and Teodora Kostovic contest the singles final - about half of Roehampton winners go on to take the Wimbledon title (unlike with the boys)

Doubles SF

Pastikova/Stusek (CZE/GER) d. (8) Stojsavljevic/Xu 6-3 6-7(5) [10-5]

Watched the last set and tiebreak set of Mimi and Mika's doubles, where I was sat next to their mums! They were encouraging them and willing them on but sadly they lost in a ten point tiebreak. Thought Mimi's volleying was very crisp and she did some lovely drop volleys too. Mika's groundtrokes are so impressive working the angles well. Good practice on grass before wimbledon and overall a good week especially for Mimi who reached singles QF. Also watched a small bit of Jovic and Grant in the doubles and they are definitely a fun combo, buzzing with energy and seem so happy and enjoying their tennis!

Sorry just seen your message! For some reason the order of play on ITF website disappeared and a lot of the matches had already been played by the time I had finished watching the J300 matches (so much going on!). I did catch a bit of Rhys Lawlor who has a big build for his age already but seemed to lack a bit of consistency and got broken at the start of first set and never recovered. He had about 5 coaches from Loughborough watching him so not short on support! I'm sure its all good experience but a shame he couldn't make FQR.

Caught a small bit of Moise Kouame too who looks a great prospect. Very physical game and easy power for his age, lovely serve too and gets so low for his groundstrokes. He lost in a final tiebreak which is a bit like a penalty shootout and he may have won had it been a normal set. Spoke to a French federation coach who was surprised it was a 10 pint tiebreak and also said that the Brits are tricky to play because they love the grass which I thought was interesting (if not surprising).

Might have gone to more tennis today but weather doesn't look great so I wonder if they will play indoors

Thanks so much, Oscar

Love the fact that you sound like a chatty guy

And, yes, Moise is a true standout potential, wonderful tennis to watch (although he is one of those young players who has an amazing build for his age and sometimes that pales as they get older and the other lads catch up)

I would think they'd definitely need to get the J300 finished today - the players need rest before Junior Wimbly - you can't mess aroudn with that, so indoors if it needs to be

not sure they'll do the same with the qualis for JW?

So glad you enjoyed it

Blinkin' bargain, I think

Completely free - and you watch practically all the top 10, top 20, junior players in the world (as well as a lot of GB interest)

And quite a few of those (especially the top girls) will be playing proper WTA events in only a couple of years time, at proper ticket prices
