Its strange I dont feel sad - he had a last week to remember and it feels like time. Thanks Andy, so much. Excited to see what comes next and I hope it is in tennis in some way.
QF: (3) Taylor Fritz & Tommy Paul (USA) UNR (162+0) defeated Daniel Evans & Andy Murray CR 766 (422+344) by 2 & 4
Ah well, it was good while it lasted. Yanks just too good. Thought they lacked a bit of spark - until a long rally in the eighth game of the second set... Thanks for some truly memorable memories, Andy.
Thanks Andy. In some ways getting back to the top 35 in the world in his mid 30s with a metal hip was as great an achievement as anything else that he did. No one else had ever got that far in singles with that injury. Great memories however from his golden years when he finally broke the Wimbledon curse.
And great to bow out in fashion at the Olympics no less. Super answer to anyone who might possibly have suggested that not making that Wimbledon doubles with Jamie his final match was very silly
Team GB's Andy Murray speaking to BBC Sport after playing his final game of professional tennis: "I mean it was a great run and we lost to two top players today. They are both top tennis players, we would have had to play very well to win that match and we didn't.
"We got into it at the end, but if we found that form earlier we could have caused them problems, but it wasn't to be.
"We did make the quarters, but if you get through that match you get an opportunity to win a medal."
On how it feels to finish his career: "I feel good. I have been ready for this moment for the last few months since I had the operation on my back - I knew it was the right time and I feel lucky to come and compete here.
"I am grateful to Dan Evans for putting in the effort he did to giving us a good chance to having a great run. I am looking forward to stopping now."
Finally from Andy Murray, speaking to BBC Sport:
"I gave as much as I could to the sport and I love competing in the Olympic Games. These weeks are so special and I will definitely miss them - I have done everything I could to prepare for this event.
"It would have been a fairytale ending to win a medal, but it wasn't to be.
"Proud to be a part of Team GB and I will miss it."
On his plans in retirement: "I have four children below the age of eight so lay-ins don't happen.
"I don't know what I will do tonight! I can do whatever I want now, but I want to go home and spend time with my children."
The way Dan and Andy battled back at the end of that second set was typical of the fight Andy showed throughout his career, a great way to bow out.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Dan shedding tears of emotion. I think the last time Evo cried was when the authorities found that little bag of white powder in his wash bag. Let's hope 'Dan the man' can have a better year.
Back to Andy, he has tweeted " I never liked tennis anyway" so I guess he had us all fooled, lol. Thanks for the memories Andy.

Love it
Although certain players have said that with far more conviction
I always remember Agassi saying he'd asked Stefi Graf if she'd play mixed doubles with him at one of the Slams (or maybe a veteran thing) - and she'd looked at him in utter horror and told him that would be divorce material - nothing against mixed doubles, she said, or him, but she was SO done with tennis, thank you very much
Not a fan but Djokovic winning gold on what must have been his last chance, given his age and recent operation, is pretty impressive and deserved. Well done - what a good time this would be to retire
