HOW did they manage that?? Pure Andy shredding our nerves! Fantastic!

The story in words from the Beeb.  Comment from Jonathan Overend:

They may lose in the next round, it may all be over then, but that was something! And he will take that with him into retirement. Fantastic from both him and Dan Evans.

The BBC has a story about Andy and Dan at www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/c3gv0e1r167o

(I suspect the Andy and Dan story was top of the liveblog when SC posted the link.)

It was & I was about to post a link to the dedicated story when I saw the above.  Andy's & Dan's delight at the win is captured well.  biggrin

I have to confess I was terrified that Dan might serve a DF when match point down. Imagine having to live with the knowledge that your DF ended Murray's career. Glad they pulled through of course.

Same!!! So impressed with what he actually managed to come up with! Really pleased for Evo to make this memory with Andy! Andy gets most of the headlines but this will be so special for Dan! Just an amazing match of perseverance and an absolutely incredible end! So great to see how they reacted to the whole situation with all the smiles and fist pumps and hugs and looks of disbelief and thrill that they do get to keep going when even they must have felt like it was over. So glad Andy got some kind of moment from this final event after all the difficulties and disappointments of his retirement plans Queen's and Wimbledon. Even if they loose the next one meekly that's a real memory made - though I'd so love to see them medal and am glad they have a good draw!

Yes to all of this (including fearing Dan would double fault).

It was also lovely than Andy took a lot of time at the end to talk to Nishikori, who has also had a lot of injury issues.

Yes, it was, and you really had to feel for Kei

He knew he was the 'name' that was expected to lead the way for their team - and he really messed up a bit on a couple of those match points - that must be hard :(
