ITF Wheelchair Tour 2025

Well done Alfie for a comfortable straight sets win over Fernandez. Gordon is equal in his semi versus de la Puente, big tussle. Come on Gordon!

And Gordon went down in 3 sets after a big fight, hard luck to him.

Final is Alfie versus De la Puente.

In the quad doubles, Andy and Sam Schroeder lost heavily to Vink and Kaplan, disappointing end to the event for Andy.

Lucy is playing the womens doubles as I type and ahead 5-2.

Alfie and Gordon will start their mens doubles semi shortly

Congrats to Lucy Shuker and her Dutch partner, Aniek van Koot on winning the womens doubles here at Baton Rouge in the Super Series event

And Alfie and Gordon win their mens doubles semi and into the final. Two finals for Alfie this weekend; good luck in both .

Alfie and Gordon got a walkover in the mens doubles final, not the way they would want it. But, nonetheless,

Well done Alfie, wins 0 and 3!

This and the AO. Ok, Oda was missing, but Alfie is certainly in the ascendancy at the moment.

The wheelchair tour has moved to Asia this month and the first of two Korean series 1 events takes place before the Japan Open super series event.

This week is the Daegu Open, in Daegu (!) and we have just one Brit taking place - Dahnon Ward in the mens.

Dahnon won his opening match, and plays the top seed in the last 16.

In Daegu, a rather stunning win to check in and see, this morning. Dahnon Ward was playing top seed, Stephane Houdet and won 2-6 7-5 6-4 .

Now Houdet is world ranked 6, whereas Dahnon is ranked 48, and that type of ranking gap is almost unheard of to overcome in wheelchair top level tennis. Houdet had won their two previous matches, both in France, for the lost of just 3 games over 4 sets, including at the Paralympics last year.

Houdet is 56 years old however, and rather remarkably playing top level tennis still. He won the recent Bolton ITF 2 level event I covered up this thread and also the prior ABN Amro event in Rotterdam, one of the big money events on the tour. Alfie beat Houdet in the Cajun Classic the other week, but no evidence or sign that Houdet has an injury or illness at all and he is still in the doubles field.

19 year old Dahnon goes onto play Sergei Lysov in the last 8 - Lysov, is 20, an Israeli and ranked 15 (seeded 5 here) but Dahnon beat him in their only previous match in the final of the SION Open in 2023 (where Dahnon stunned the field to take the title unseeded).

Dahnon hasn't really done much all season and lost early in the ITF Series 2 event in Busan (also Korea) last week, so no expectations of this result at all. Although he did win his opener here in Daegu by two bagels.

Will await the next round result with interest to see whether it was a one off fluke or some amazing turn around in form!

Really good effort by Dahnon who took the Israeli 5th seed to 3 sets. Given a 30 place ranking difference, Dahnon showed his round one win wasnt a fluke.

Whilst the non British players finish this event, the tour moves on to Seoul for the Korean Open that starts Saturday. Another series 1 event, presumably Dahnon will be there and perhaps one or two other Brits ahead of the Super Series event in Japan that follows the week after next.

It is easy to overlook these wheelchair players. This is often the reason they are playing this sport

In Seoul, Dahnon Ward won through to the last 16, as did he and Andrew Penney to the last 8 in doubles. But Andrew Penney lost 0 and 0 in singles opener and 6th seeded Greg Slade disappointingly lost his quad singles opening match. Greg is partnered with Kaplan (see post above) in the quad doubles.

So just Dahnon (mens singles last 16) and Greg+ (quad doubles last 8) left in the Seoul event

Dahnon Ward lost to 4th seeded Miki of Japan, 4 and 5 - good effort and showing his recent form isn't a one off.

In quad doubles, Greg Slade and Ahmet Kaplan won and move into the semis - Greg is the last Brit standing

In the series 3 event in Houston, some British success- Ben Bartram took the mens singles and doubles titles, and Lucy Shuker the womens singles with a final victory over fellow Brit, Cornelia Oosthuizen.

Well done to them.
